Costs

There are two basic approaches…..

Prepare the car yourself. Many people with limited engineering skills manage very successfully. There is plenty of advice and support in the paddock and in your first year you will be offered a mentor. The main costs for a 10 race season will be approximately £7k, the main elements of which are:

  • 1. Race Entry fees: £3,000

  • 2. Race fuel: £ 600

  • 3. Tyres: £ 1,000

  • 4. Transport/accommodation at meetings £1,500

  • 5. Unknown repairs (to be budgeted for) £1,000

In addition, it would be wise to budget for some test sessions especially in your first year. A half-day test session will cost £100 to £200 in entry fees plus your fuel, tyres, and transport.

Use a specialist car preparer. If you don’t have the time or the skills then there are several specialist Historic Formula Ford preparers. They will be able to prepare, repair and transport your car and they can even hire you a car for a single race if you want to try it before making any commitment. Estimated charges for these services can be obtained from the preparers and we would be pleased to put you in touch with them.
